Cytology – Ovulation cytology testing is one of the most effective methods for identifying when the optimal breeding time is during your female dog’s estrus cycle. (“on heat” “season”).
Cytology is a way to determine the optimum time to breed and enhance the success of pregnancy. There will be different type’s of cells present, varying on the stage of estrus.
Cytology swabbing tracks the cellular changes in response to the levels of oestrogen. Taking a swab is a very simple technique. A swab is taken of the cells lining the vagina. The best time to start is from day 7 of the female’s cycle.
We would retest every 3 days until ovulation is confirmed. The sample will be analysed under a specialist microscope. This will identify which stage your dog is currently in.
